At LootLocker, our primary goal is to deliver the best product possible, which requires a laser-focused approach. This involves ensuring our expanding set of features and services align with our core product vision. Occasionally, we need to deprecate features that may hinder our progress.

Deciding to deprecate features is always difficult. These features were created to fulfill specific needs but may no longer be serving their intended purpose for various reasons. These could include market or industry shifts, lack of support for a certain technology, or the need for a total overhaul.

With this in mind, we've decided to streamline LootLocker by removing some legacy code that is nearly a decade old. The following features will be affected:

  • Missions
  • Collectables
  • Segments
  • Asset Packages
  • Asset Variations

These features and their API endpoints are not permanently gone. We will be disabling access to them for new games through the Web Console while maintaining availability of the APIs for the next two years. During that time we plan to rebuild and reintroduce them to the platform in a future update. Until then, we believe it's best to remove access to them. The decision to disable these features, rather than leaving them until they're replaced, is primarily due to potential issues they could cause in live games.

To assist with this transition, we've established a deprecation plan for these features to provide ample notice before they're deactivated:

  • These features will remain available for games created before April 11th, 2024
  • Games created after April 11th, 2024 will not have access to these features in the Web Console
  • Notices will be posted in the Web Console indicating the impending deprecation of these features
  • The APIs for these features will continue to be supported for two years from April 11th, 2024

If you are actively using one of these features and worry about this affecting your game's development or growth, please get in touch with us directly. If you have any other questions about these features or our deprecating framework, please reach out to us via Discord or Twitter.
