Game development and publishing used to be all about pouring your blood, sweat, and tears into creating a game in isolation and then releasing it to players as a finished product. Those days are long gone! Today, game development is a dynamic, two-way street where players have a significant voice. Whether it's reporting players in multiplayer games, flagging content in UGC games, or simply providing general feedback in Early Access titles, player input is invaluable. So invaluable in fact, that we've actually written about the importance of player feedback a long time ago.
At LootLocker, we understand this evolution and are excited to introduce our latest feature: Feedback. This powerful tool captures player sentiment in one comprehensive system, ensuring that every type of game can benefit from player feedback. Even better, since all LootLocker features are vertically integrated, our new Feedback feature becomes even more powerful when connected to our other plug and play features like Unified Player Accounts, Assets, and Economy.
Feedback is broken down into three different areas, Player, UGC and Game - each with their own use cases.
Multiplayer games can quickly turn toxic as they gain popularity, with players hiding behind virtual avatars. Most major multiplayer games, like Call of Duty, allow players to report others for specific predefined reasons, making it quick and easy for developers to review and ban offending players.
LootLocker’s player-type Feedback does exactly this. Players can report other players based on a game-specific list of reasons (categories), and these reports are aggregated in the LootLocker console for review. The console shows all player reports and the number of reports a player has received, and our cross-platform functionality ensures that players can’t avoid punishment by switching platforms.
Whether your game features multiplayer or not, many popular games these days feature user-generated content (UGC), allowing players to create and share their own in-game content. Unfortunately, some players might create offensive, spammy, or buggy content. While major games like Fortnite have robust internal tools to manage and moderate this, building such a system is a major investment of both time and money. That’s where LootLocker steps in.
Take Hokko Life for example, a game powered by LootLocker. Hokko Life lets players create and share furniture, clothing, and more across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch. If a player creates something offensive, other players can report the specific piece of content for moderation by the game’s developer or publisher. Just like with player reports, content can be assigned game-specific feedback categories.
Even if your game doesn’t feature multiplayer or UGC, our new feedback system is still incredibly useful. Providing players with a simple way to give feedback, whether it's bug reports or general sentiment, helps you understand where your players might be getting stuck or frustrated—or what they love about your game. Think of it like those airport feedback kiosks where you tap a happy or sad face to rate your experience. A great example of this in action is Industries of Titan.
With game-based Feedback, players can easily report bugs or issues, or offer general feedback directly in-game. Since this feedback is attached to the player’s account, it’s easy to reward them with virtual goods or currency for their valuable input.
LootLocker’s new Feedback system gives you access to tools usually reserved for the biggest developers and publishers. Integrated with our other features, this system is even more powerful than what many large publishers can offer. Our intuitive web console and straightforward implementation through our SDK for Unity and Unreal make it easy for any team, big or small, to quickly take advantage of these tools to enhance their games and communities.
